Just a small donation will go a long way to helping me meet my goal for Epic Charity Challenge D Day 2018 - National Navy SEAL Museum

On June 6th this year I am undertaking another Epic adventure, this time for a charitable cause to help the families of fallen and injured servicemen.

I will be joining a team of dedicated men as we canoe 10 milesand swim 6.2 milesin the rough and cold English Channel into Omaha Beach. Following the canoe/swim, we will be climbing the 120-foot cliffs of Normandy to perform a wreath laying ceremony followed by a 45-pound ruck march 20 miles to Saint-Lô.

Omaha Beach was the site of the 1944 D-Day invasion by the Allied invasion of Normandy in Operation Overlord during World War II -the largest seaborne invasion in history. The operation began the liberation of German-occupied northwestern Europe from Nazi control and contributed to the Allied victory on the Western Front. German casualties on D-Day have been estimated at 4,000 to 9,000 men. Allied casualties were at least 10,000, with 4,414 confirmed dead.

The reason for this poignantevent is that the men of the underwater demolition teams, the fore-runners of the SEALs were the first people ashore at the beaches, mapping the beaches and laying charges to clear a way for the men following and as such suffered a 50% casualty rate!

For more information on the program we're raising funds to support, please visit this page on the Trident House Charities Program www.navysealmuseum.org/navy-seal-swimruck-challenge - a charity set up to provide help and support and a place for the families of fallen NavySEALs to visit and stay, as well as providing help and support for veterans.

My preparation will include several major training day challenges such as long endurance swims, rucksack marches with at least 45lbs of sand and long paddles, all designed to push me out of my comfort zone and to bring more awareness to my fundraising efforts. I have begun my build up training for this epic event and will continue to do so through the winter and spring leading up to the actual day.

You will be able to follow my journey via Instagram; @drsimonnsmith and FaceBook; simon n smith and I'll be posting regular updates for you all to see on the Broadgate Chiropractic facebook page.

That water is going to be rough, cold and unforgiving. Imagine being 10 miles out to sea canoeing towards a compass heading in the dark. It'll be a daunting challenge! It won't be easy, but as they say, if it was easy, everyone would be doing it. It's an honour to participate in such an event. I'm honored to be on this team of active and retired Navy SEALS, military veterans, reservists and endurance athletes.

I could use your motivation and sponsorship! Especially in the cold dark mornings of winter!
